New Zealand golfer Ryan Fox has won his second PGA Tour title in less than a month. The 38-year-old took home the Canadian Open trophy after a tense four-hole playoff against American Sam Burns on Sunday.
Fox, from Auckland, started the final round tied for the lead but fell behind by three shots. However, he made a strong comeback by scoring birdies on three of his last five holes, forcing a playoff with Burns.
The playoff took place on the par-five 18th hole, played four times. On the first hole, Fox hit into a bunker but was saved when Burns missed a short putt. Both golfers then made par on the next two playoff holes.
On the fourth extra hole, Fox hit an amazing second shot that landed just two meters from the hole. Burns made a mistake by needing three putts, giving Fox a chance to win with two shots. He didn’t miss.
Fox called his winning shot “probably the best shot I ever hit in my life,” and said the match was tough, especially the first 13 holes.
This victory follows his first PGA Tour win at the Myrtle Beach Classic in South Carolina, also after a playoff. Fox’s latest win also earned him nearly NZ$3 million.
