Lydia Ko won the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore on Sunday, marking her 23rd LPGA Tour victory.
The New Zealand golfer shot a final-round 69, finishing with a total score of 13-under 275 at Sentosa Golf Club. This was her first win at the tournament after 11 attempts.
Ayaka Furue of Japan and Jeeno Thitikul of Thailand tied for second place, finishing four strokes behind Ko. Charley Hull of England, who started the final round just one shot back, ended up in a three-way tie for fourth place with Gaby Lopez of Mexico and Jin Hee Im of South Korea.
With this victory, Ko earned $360,000 and moved into second place on the LPGA’s career money list with $20.6 million, trailing only Annika Sorenstam. At 27 years old, Ko is already in the LPGA Hall of Fame, but this win was special after years of disappointment at this tournament.
“I dreamt last night that I won, but then I woke up and thought, ‘It’s not real yet,’” Ko said. She credited her steady start and birdies on holes six through eight for building confidence during the final round.
