The America’s Cup, also known as the Auld Mug, is touring New Zealand, allowing fans to see the famous trophy up close.
From September 2 to 20, the cup will travel 4,500 kilometres across the country, visiting 40 locations over 19 days. This tour, organised by Toyota New Zealand, celebrates the country’s sailing history and gives communities a chance to connect with the sport.
During the tour, fans can take photos with the trophy and sign the Emirates Team New Zealand supporters’ sail. The Auld Mug is currently held by Emirates Team New Zealand after their victory in 2021. Susanne Hardy, Assistant Vice President of Toyota New Zealand, said the tour helps build excitement for the 2024 America’s Cup, which will take place in Barcelona, Spain, in October.
In addition to the tour, Toyota is supporting the next generation of Kiwi sailors with the new Toyota Kiwi Cup Regatta. This youth sailing event will take place from September 30 to October 4 on Auckland’s Waitematā Harbour. Ten teams from across New Zealand will compete, sailing in the Emirates Team New Zealand Elliott 7 boats.
