Inside Out 2 has made an incredible £1.13 billion in just six weeks, making it the highest-grossing animated film ever.
But there’s more to the story. The term “grossing” refers to the total money a film has made, and this sequel has already surpassed Frozen 2, which earned £1.12 billion in 2019.
However, Inside Out 2 isn’t the top Disney animation. That title belongs to the 2019 version of The Lion King, which made £1.28 billion. Despite using computer-generated animation like Inside Out 2, The Lion King is classified as a live-action remake, so it’s in a different category.
Inside Out 2 could still earn more money and surpass The Lion King in the coming weeks. It has also outperformed last year’s Barbie movie in global ticket sales.
So, while Inside Out 2 holds a new record, The Lion King remains the top earner in its special category.
