The “Bleu Royal,” the largest fancy vivid blue diamond ever to come to auction, has sold for over $44 million (NZ$74.2 million) at Christie’s auction house during Geneva’s Luxury Week.

The ring features a 17.61-carat fancy vivid blue pear-shaped diamond.

The sale exceeded Christie’s pre-sale estimate of around $35 million (NZ$59 million) and set a record as the most expensive jewel sold at auction this year.

Following the sale, the “Bleu Royal” will be handed over to a private collection for the first time in 40 years.
