Air New Zealand is launching a special “Wahs Express” flight to take 160 South Island Warriors supporters from Christchurch to Auckland for Saturday’s NRL finals match against the Dolphins. The flight will leave Christchurch at 12.35pm on 12 September and arrive in Auckland in time for the big game at Go Media Stadium. Supporters can buy a $449 package that includes the one-way flight and a Category One ticket to the match.
Air New Zealand’s chief commercial officer, Scott Wilkinson, said he expected the special flight to sell quickly. He said Warriors fans from Canterbury and other parts of the South Island wanted to be there to support their team. The airline hopes the travelling supporters will create plenty of noise and excitement in the stands.
Warriors chief executive Cameron George thanked Air New Zealand for helping fans get to the important match. He said having supporters travel together from Christchurch would give the team an extra boost. The Warriors are preparing for a tough finals match against the Dolphins.
Another airline, Air Chathams, is also offering flights for Warriors supporters. Fans from Whakatāne or Whanganui will be able to fly to Auckland for the Saturday night match. With supporters travelling from different parts of the country, the Warriors are set to have plenty of backing when they take on the Dolphins.
