Old National Flags
In 1830 New Zealand’s merchant ships wanted a national flag. At that time, a woven mat was hung on the convoy, however, that flag had no effect on the people of other countries.
On 20 March 1834, Ngāpuhi leaders were invited to Waitangi. The reason they were invited was to choose a flag to promote them. There were three options, and in the end the flag of Te Whakamininga o ng Hapū o Aotearoa was chosen.
