Chip Taste Challenge

What type of chips do you like? Have you tasted salt and vinegar chips that make your tongue tingle? Well, one salt and vinegar chip eater ate Copper Kettle chips, and the flavour was so powerful, they couldn’t taste any other food for a while.

Chip Investigators at Consumer NZ heard of this story, so, they decided to go on a mission, to find out what is the best salt and vinegar chip brands in the supermarkets.

Vanessa Pratley, a Chip Investigator, said they were judging the chips on: “even distribution of flavour” and the “crunch factor.” Eight chip contenders faced the taste challenge.

The findings: Countdown and Pams brand of chips got a “bland” report card. They were as exciting as a nap!

The best chip included Snacka Changi Vinegar and Salt and Kettle Chip Company Sea Salt and Vinegar for the strongest flavour and best crunch. Even the pricier Proper Crisps got a thumbs down for being average.

Surprise, surprise! Your go-to chip might not win in a blindfolded taste test. So, next time you grab your crunchy snack, remember, it’s not just about the brand—it’s about the flavour and crunch factor!
