ENGLISH TRANSLATION

Let’s talk about an amazing athlete named Lisa Carrington! She was born in 1989 in Tauranga and grew up in Ōhope, a town near Whakatāne. She has a special mix of backgrounds – Te Aitanga-a-Māhaki, Ngāti Porou, and European descent.

In 2022, Lisa Carrington was given a special honour. She became a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the New Year Honours. It’s because she’s super good at canoe racing!

Did you know she’s really, really fast? Back in 2014, in Moscow, Russia, during the Canoe Sprint World Championships, she raced in a K1 Women 200m canoeing event and set a record with a super-fast time of 37.898 seconds! That’s like zooming down a river!

But that’s not all. In the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in Japan, Lisa won three gold medals! She’s the only one who did that in canoe sprinting. She won in the K1 200m race and also in the K1 and K2 500m races. That’s why some people call her the “GOAT in a boat” because she’s the greatest!

So, Lisa Carrington is a super-duper fast and amazing canoe racer from New Zealand who has won lots of gold medals. She’s a real champ!
