Pop star Taylor Swift has officially taken control of the master recordings for her first six albums, a major step after years of fighting to own her music. She bought them from Shamrock Capital, the company that previously held the rights. The announcement was made in early June 2025.

Swift said this has been her “greatest dream come true.” These master recordings are the original versions of her songs, including big hits like Shake It Off and You Belong With Me. In the past, Swift wasn’t allowed to buy them when they were sold in 2019. She responded by re-recording four of her albums and labelling them Taylor’s Version.

Now, Swift also plans to re-record her debut album from 2006 and parts of her 2017 album Reputation. She says she’ll release them when the time feels right.

Swift first signed with Big Machine Label Group but left the company in 2018.

Swift, who is now 35, has won 14 Grammy Awards and recently finished the highest-earning concert tour in history. She thanked Shamrock’s team for being “honest, fair and respectful,” and even joked she might get a shamrock tattoo to celebrate.

Now, for the first time, Swift can say all her music belongs to her.
