Cookie Bear comes back

Griffins has announced that Cookie Bear will return to its biscuit packets in New Zealand, after the mascot was removed in March 2025. The company said the bear is “on his way” back to shops over the coming weeks.

Cookie Bear was taken off the packaging to make the packets look clearer and simpler. But after he disappeared, many New Zealanders complained and shared memories about him. Griffins said people spoke about Cookie Bear as a big part of their childhood and a friendly face in the kitchen cupboard.

The bear has appeared on popular biscuits like Chockie Chippies, Hundreds & Thousands, Stripes, and Shrewsbury. Griffins said Cookie Bear had been the face of these biscuits for more than 57 years before being retired.

On Facebook, the company said it was obvious he had been missed. Griffins also promised that Cookie Bear is back “to stay”.
