Billy Stairmand, a talented surfer from Raglan, faced a tough competition. In an elimination round, he competed against two-time world champion Filipe Toledo from Brazil. Despite a strong start with an impressive 8.17 score on his first wave, Billy couldn’t overcome Toledo’s experience and was eliminated.
In another match, New Zealand’s Saffi Vette also faced a challenging opponent. She competed against Portugal’s Yolanda Hopkins in Round 2. Despite her best efforts, Saffi was unable to advance and was eliminated from the competition.
