An Australian shop owner has found a Magnum Ego ice cream that’s almost 30 years old at the bottom of his freezer.
Ash Stanbridge owns the Kolmar House General Store in Harrow, in south-west Victoria. He was chipping ice out of a freezer when he noticed the old logo and wrapper underneath. His first thought was, “Well, that’s been here a while.”
The Magnum Ego first went on sale in 1998 and became a much-loved summer treat in Australia, before being discontinued earlier this year. It was a stick of vanilla ice cream covered in a thin layer of milk chocolate, then caramel, then an outer shell of milk chocolate.
Mr Stanbridge only took over the store 10 months ago. He posted his discovery on social media, where it went viral, with many people sharing their memories of the ice cream.
The store is more than 145 years old, and he also found chip packets from the 1980s and 1990s in the same storeroom.
He has contacted the Magnum Ice Cream company, which says it is looking into the find.
