In a thrilling final match, New South Wales (NSW) defeated Queensland 14-4 to win the State of Origin rugby league series in Australia. The game took place on Wednesday, with Bradman Best scoring a crucial try in the 65th minute to give NSW the lead.
Mitchell Moses secured the victory for the Blues by scoring another try just four minutes later. This win was historic for NSW, marking only their second decisive victory in Brisbane since 2005 and their third overall at Suncorp Stadium.
Earlier in the series, Queensland had won the first game 38-18 in Sydney, while NSW leveled the series with a 38-10 win in Melbourne. During the final match, Valentine Holmes kicked two penalty goals for Queensland, accounting for all their points.
The game was intense, with both teams displaying strong defensive skills. The score was tied at 2-2 early in the second half, following penalties by Holmes and Zac Lomax. Holmes then put Queensland ahead 4-2 in the 64th minute before NSW’s decisive tries.
Tempers flared in the first half, leading to Cameron Murray and Jeremiah Nanai being sent off for ten minutes. The incident began with a push between Queensland’s Daly Cherry-Evans and NSW’s Jarome Luai, which escalated when Nanai and Murray joined the fray.
This victory is significant for first-year coach Michael Maguire, who led the Blues to their first series win since 2021.
