Moo Deng, a pygmy hippo who became a social media sensation, celebrated her first birthday on Thursday at the Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand.

The tiny hippo, whose name means “Bouncy Pig,” received a 44-pound cake and a four-day party to mark the special occasion.

Moo Deng became one of TikTok’s biggest stars in 2024. Her videos have captured hearts around the world. The zoo shared birthday wishes on Instagram, hoping Moo Deng stays “healthy and bouncy for a long time.”

Fans from many countries traveled to Thailand just to see her. Molly Swindall, a visitor from New York who calls herself a “mooniac,” said this was her third trip to see Moo Deng. “Fame hasn’t changed her,” she said, smiling. “She’s still the same sweet hippo.”

Swindall also shared that Moo Deng brings happiness to people, especially during hard times. The zoo staff say they are proud of how Moo Deng has helped others feel joy.
