San Marino’s national soccer team celebrated a historic 1-0 win against Liechtenstein in the UEFA Nations League, marking their first competitive victory in 20 years.

Nicko Sensoli scored the only goal in the 53rd minute, giving the small country its first triumph since 2004, when they also beat Liechtenstein 1-0 in a friendly match.

San Marino, which is completely surrounded by Italy, is ranked last in the world at No. 210 by FIFA, while Liechtenstein is ranked slightly higher at No. 199.

With a population of just over 33,000, San Marino is one of the smallest nations in Europe. The victory came in Group D1 of the Nations League, which also includes Gibraltar. This rare win has brought excitement to San Marino, known as one of the world’s least successful international soccer teams.
