Chris Luxon meets with Australian Prime Minister

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese have met in Noosa, Queensland. The leaders discussed the relationship between New Zealand and Australia. They said the partnership was important during a time of global change.

The leaders talked about trade, defence, the Pacific and world issues. They said the peace and stability of Pacific countries were closely connected. They also discussed fuel supply problems and the need for stronger economic resilience.

New Zealand’s nuclear-free position was also discussed. Albanese said Australia respected New Zealand’s right to make its own decisions. Luxon said New Zealand’s nuclear-free stance would not change while he was prime minister.

The meeting also included some friendly jokes between the leaders. Albanese said the relationship sometimes had a bit of cheekiness. Both leaders said the two countries remained close partners with shared history and values.
