The Australian Diamonds defeated the New Zealand Silver Ferns 68–51 in the second match of the Constellation Cup, played in Sydney. The victory gives Australia a 2–0 lead in the four-match series as the competition now heads to New Zealand.

The Silver Ferns trailed by just two points at half-time, but a powerful third quarter from the Diamonds proved too much. Australia outscored New Zealand 21–9 in that period, stretching their lead to 14 goals heading into the final quarter. It was a repeat of the first Test, where the Silver Ferns also faded in the second half, losing 69–52.

Both teams kept the same starting line-ups from the first Test. New Zealand’s struggles began early, with Australia forcing errors and disrupting their passing. Martina Salmon had a tough start, and the attacking flow to goal shooter Grace Nweke was often broken.

Interim coach Yvette McCausland-Durie made key changes in the second quarter, including bringing on Georgia Heffernan at goal attack and using zone defence. The adjustments helped, and the Ferns won the quarter to trail only 30–28 at the break.

But after half-time, Australia stepped up again, led by sharp shooting and strong defensive pressure. New Zealand’s attacking end faltered, and turnovers gave the Diamonds extra chances to score.

In the final quarter, Peta Toeava and Catherine Hall were brought on to spark a comeback, and the Silver Ferns briefly narrowed the gap. However, the Diamonds quickly regained control and closed out the match comfortably.

The series now moves to New Zealand, with the third Test set for Sunday in Hamilton. The Silver Ferns must win to keep the series alive.
