Auckland Art Gallery Closes

The Auckland Art Gallery has temporarily closed because of a leaking pipe on the second floor.

Acting director Margaret Young explained that the safety of the art collection, staff, and visitors is the gallery’s top priority. A full assessment is underway to address the issue, with more updates to follow soon.

Visitors with tickets for Olafur Eliasson will have to reschedule or receive a refund. Unfortunately, three events from the Auckland Pride Festival—Queer Zinemaking, Queer Yarns, and Theytriarchy—will be rescheduled as well.

The gallery, which had a $121 million redevelopment in 2011, is also working on replacing the roof of its 135-year-old heritage building.

A few children used chalk to draw on the concrete near the shelter. Even though they could not run outside, the class still found quiet ways to have fun together. When the rain stopped, they hurried out to the field for the last few minutes of play.
