Auckland Art Gallery Closes

The Auckland Art Gallery has temporarily closed because of a leaking pipe on the second floor.

Acting director Margaret Young explained that the safety of the art collection, staff, and visitors is the gallery’s top priority. A full assessment is underway to address the issue, with more updates to follow soon.

Visitors with tickets for Olafur Eliasson will have to reschedule or receive a refund. Unfortunately, three events from the Auckland Pride Festival—Queer Zinemaking, Queer Yarns, and Theytriarchy—will be rescheduled as well.

The gallery, which had a $121 million redevelopment in 2011, is also working on replacing the roof of its 135-year-old heritage building.
