The Black Ferns have thrashed France 81-12 at FMG Stadium in Hamilton, in the first game of a three-match test series. Wing Shyrah Tuliau-Tua’a was the star of the show, scoring four tries.
New Zealand scored 13 tries to France’s two, winning by a huge 69 points.
The Black Ferns needed only one minute to score their first try, through halfback Maia Joseph. Joseph soon scored again, and wing Ayesha Leti-I’iga and centre Amy du Plessis both added two tries each.
Loose forward Kaipo Olsen-Baker and replacement back Ruahei Demant also scored. Captain Georgia Ponsonby scored just before halftime, giving the home side a 43-0 lead at the break.
France were missing several of their best players, and they struggled to win the ball at their own scrums and lineouts.
They finally got on the scoreboard in the second half, with a try to wing Léa Murie, and added a second try late in the game.
The Black Ferns now lead the series 1-0, and the second test will be played next week in Whangārei.
