The All Blacks have lost the fourth and final Test of their series against the Springboks, going down 43-28 in Baltimore, in the United States, on Sunday, 13 September 2026.
The result meant South Africa won the four-Test series 3-1, claiming the Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry trophy. It was the first time in 30 years the two teams had played a full traditional series against each other.
The All Blacks actually won the first Test of the series 33-16 in South Africa, but then lost the next three Tests in a row, first 33-26, then 29-24, and finally 43-28 in Baltimore.
In the fourth Test, South Africa raced out to a first-half lead through tries from Damien de Allende and Morné van den Berg, while New Zealand hit back with tries to Codie Taylor and Will Jordan.
South Africa pulled further ahead in the second half with tries from Malcolm Marx and Pieter-Steph du Toit. New Zealand’s Ethan Blackadder scored in reply, but further late tries to Kurt-Lee Arendse and Cameron Hanekom sealed the win for the Springboks, with Beauden Barrett grabbing a late consolation try for New Zealand.
The match, played at a stadium usually used for American football, drew the largest crowd ever recorded for a rugby union match in the United States.
South Africa captain Siya Kolisi thanked the fans after the game. “I want to thank every South African here in the stadium and back at home… the respect we have for each other is always there,” he said.
It brings an end to a tough tour for the All Blacks, who will now regroup before their next international assignment.
