A Chinese company has built a humanoid robot called “Superman” that can run faster than record-breaking sprinter Usain Bolt.
The robot reached a top speed of about 45.6km/h, which is faster than Bolt’s peak sprint speed of 44.7km/h, recorded back in 2009.
It can also jump two metres straight up from standing still, higher than the human vertical jump record of 1.8 metres.
Superman was made by Unitree Robotics, a company based in Hangzhou, China, founded by Wang Xingxing. It took engineers just over three months to build it.
It’s an update on an earlier robot from the same company, called H1, which reached a slower top speed of 10.1 metres per second back in April 2026.
Unitree has already built around 18,000 humanoid robots and recently listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
Robots like Superman are still being tested and developed, so don’t expect to see one racing at your local athletics day just yet.
