Fleming takes England Cricket Role

Former New Zealand cricket captain Stephen Fleming has been chosen as the new coach of England’s Test cricket team.

Fleming replaces another New Zealander, Brendon McCullum, who will continue coaching England’s shorter forms of cricket. This means England’s cricket teams now have New Zealanders leading both parts of the game.

Fleming was one of New Zealand’s longest-serving Test captains and won 28 matches while leading the team. He has also had great success coaching the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League.

England’s new captain will be Joe Root, who previously led the team from 2017 to 2022. Root returns after former captain Ben Stokes retired from international cricket.

Fleming said he was excited to work with Root and young leader Harry Brook.

He will begin preparing England for future challenges, including a series against South Africa and the next Ashes contest against Australia.

Room 6 was preparing a display for the school library. The students sorted books into groups and wrote short labels for each shelf. Their teacher said the display should be organised so readers could find topics easily. After the afternoon bell, the class stood back and looked at their work.
