New Zealand athlete Tori Moorby won the silver medal in the women’s javelin at an athletics meeting. Her best throw was 60.04 metres, helping her finish more than two metres ahead of the bronze medallist. Australian athlete Mackenzie Little won the event with a throw of 61.88 metres and stayed in first place throughout the competition.

Moorby’s six throws measured 55.85m, 56.27m, 60.04m, a foul, 58.14m and another foul. Although she has a personal best of 63.26m, she was not able to reach that distance this time. At 32 years old, Moorby has already won 10 national javelin titles, with her first coming in 2012. She also finished fifth at the 2022 Commonwealth Games and was 19th at the 2024 Olympic Games.

In the men’s one-mile race, New Zealand runner Sam Tanner hoped to challenge some of the world’s best athletes. The race started very slowly, so the runners stayed close together until the final part of the race. Home favourite Josh Kerr, the new 1500m world record holder, sprinted to victory in 3 minutes 54.12 seconds. Tanner led the race halfway through but finished ninth in 3 minutes 56.93 seconds.

New Zealand also had two athletes in the men’s pole vault. Nick Southgate finished seventh and James Steyn came eighth after both cleared 5.10 metres. Southgate placed higher because he had fewer failed attempts. Australia’s Kurtis Marschall won the event with a jump of 5.85 metres.
