New Zealand footballer Elijah Just has been nominated for the FIFA World Cup Goal of the Tournament award. He is the first Kiwi player to be shortlisted for the honour after scoring a brilliant volley against Iran.
Just scored the goal during New Zealand’s 2-2 draw with Iran. In the sixth minute, he flicked the ball into the air before hitting a powerful volley into the net. The goal gave the All Whites their first score of the tournament.
The 26-year-old scored three goals during the World Cup. He said scoring at football’s biggest tournament was something he had never dreamed would happen. His goal is one of 12 selected by FIFA and is competing against goals from some of the world’s top football players.
