The Football Ferns have lost 2-1 to Haiti in a friendly football match. The game was played in Malaga, Spain. It was the first time the New Zealand women’s team had played Haiti.

New Zealand took the lead late in the first half. Michaela Foster sent in a deep free kick, and Claudia Bunge headed the ball into the net. It was only Bunge’s second international goal.

Haiti fought back just before half-time. Captain Nerilia Mondesir scored from a free kick in stoppage time. Soon after the second half began, Lourdjina Etienne scored another free kick for Haiti.

New Zealand struggled to create clear chances after that. Haiti controlled much of the rest of the match and held on to win. The Football Ferns were due to play Morocco next in Malaga.
