Could your Groundsman beat the Lawn Queen’s Record?

An American influencer has broken a Guinness World Record by mowing a football field-sized patch of grass in under 15 minutes. Your school groundsman might want to take notes.

Hali Rieman, known online as the “Lawn Queen,” jumped on a ride-on mower at Waterfront Park in Louisville, Kentucky, and cut the entire area in just 14 minutes and 51 seconds. That’s quick work for a job that could easily take hours with a regular mower.

The record attempt was organised with the help of power technology company Rehlko, who provided the mower. Under the bonnet was a powerful 999 cc petrol engine, which is much bigger than what you’d find in most household mowers.

Guinness World Records had some strict rules for the attempt. The grass had to be at least six inches tall before Rieman started cutting. That’s about 15 centimetres, so the lawn was looking pretty shaggy before she fired up the engine.

The event took place on the TurfMutt Great Lawn, a well-known outdoor space in the local community. Waterfront Park’s director Deborah Bilitski said she was proud to see the lawn “recognised on this scale,” adding that managed green spaces are important for community health and connection, not just something nice to look at.

So next time you see your groundsman out on the field, maybe give them a little extra respect. Keeping grass looking tidy is harder than it looks.
