New Zealand and 23 other countries are asking Israel to let more aid into Gaza. Foreign Minister Winston Peters said it is “intolerable” that people in Gaza have not received help for many weeks. The United Nations says around 14,000 babies there are very sick from hunger and need food and medicine within the next two days.

Countries like the United Kingdom, France, and Canada also shared their concerns. The UK even stopped trade talks with Israel because of how serious the situation has become. Peters said that while the conflict started with attacks by Hamas, the suffering of people in Gaza must stop.

He believes the United Nations should help bring aid into the area and that Israel needs to listen. Peters also said New Zealand does not support Israel’s new military actions in Gaza. He explained that other countries, such as Egypt and Indonesia, agree with New Zealand’s position.

Peters said Israel must act now, and that words are no longer enough.
