Pixar Animation Studios has announced that Coco 2 is officially in the works and is expected to be released in 2029.

The news came from Disney CEO Bob Iger, who said the sequel is still in early development but promises “humour, heart, and adventure.”

The first Coco movie came out in 2018 and followed Miguel, a 12-year-old boy from Mexico who dreams of becoming a musician, even though his family has banned music. His journey takes him to the colourful Land of the Dead, where he learns important lessons about family and tradition.

Coco was a big success, winning two Oscars, including Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Remember Me.” It also won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA award. It was the first Pixar film to feature a Mexican lead character, celebrating Mexican culture and music.

The original directors, Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina, are returning to lead the sequel, which means fans can expect the same style and spirit. While details of the story haven’t been shared yet, many are excited to see what new adventures await Miguel.

More news about Coco 2 is expected in the coming years as Pixar continues work on the film.
