A hazelnut ice cream called “Hazelnut Cremino,” crafted over five years, has taken the top prize at the NZ Ice Cream & Gelato Awards 2023.

Patagonia Chocolates, the maker of Hazelnut Cremino, uses a handmade paste made from Central Otago hazelnuts, providing a delicate and authentic flavor, according to judges.

The ice cream received several other awards at the competition, including Boutique Champion and PACT Packaging Champion Standard Ice Cream Award.

The founder, Alex Gimenez, comes from a family with a 60-year history in the ice cream business in Argentina and now has four shops across Southern Lakes in New Zealand.
