Football Ferns crash out of Women’s World Cup

In a gripping and emotionally charged final World Cup game, New Zealand’s Football Ferns drew 0-0 with Switzerland.

The game, played in front of a roaring crowd of 26,000 passionate fans at the Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin, meant that New Zealand’s dreams of advancing to the final 16 were dashed, as they finished the pool stage on 4 points.

The Football Ferns entered the match knowing that a victory would secure their spot in the knockout stages.

The game was played at high intensity with New Zealand having the best of the opening exchanges. However, the much-needed goal, was not found. In the second half Switzerland, grew into the game and dominated for long periods.

The draw concluded New Zealand’s journey in the 2023 Women’s Football World Cup, but their spirited performances will be etched in the memories of fans worldwide.

As the tournament progresses and the world’s best teams advance to the knockout stages, New Zealand can take solace in the knowledge that they showcased the true spirit of Kiwi football on the world stage.
