Skate boarding cat breaks record

A skateboarding cat named Bao Zi showed off his impressive skills in China, earning a Guinness World Record by skateboarding a distance of 10.32m in 12.85 seconds.

Bao Zi, an American Shorthair, achieved this feat at the young age of 1 year and 8 months.

Bao Zi’s owner, professional dog trainer Li Jiangtao, originally brought the cat home to help with a rodent problem. “We had mice running around the ceiling at night, so I got Bao Zi to scare them away,” Jiangtao told Guinness World Records.

However, Jiangtao soon noticed that Bao Zi had talents beyond mousing. Having trained dogs for over a decade and enjoying skateboarding with his own dog, Jiangtao observed Bao Zi’s keen interest in skateboards. He decided to nurture this behavior, and after about a year of training, Bao Zi mastered the art of skateboarding.

“Training a cat is quite challenging because they don’t learn things as quickly as dogs do,” Jiangtao explained to the South China Morning Post. “Dogs make improvements day by day and they remember it. As for cats, they can learn a trick and then forget it the next second.”

Despite the difficulties, Bao Zi’s persistence paid off, and his skateboarding skills earned him a spot in the Guinness World Records. This remarkable achievement highlights the unique talents that pets can have and the dedication of their owners in nurturing these abilities.
