Dave Rennie has been named the new head coach of the All Blacks after the decision was announced on social media. He will replace Scott Robertson and has signed a two-year contract to lead the team.
Rennie, who previously coached the Australian Wallabies and is currently working in Japan, was chosen ahead of Jamie Joseph for the role. His appointment follows a difficult period for the All Blacks after Robertson was dismissed in January.
A special interview panel helped choose the new coach. The group included rugby leaders, former All Blacks players and senior officials from New Zealand Rugby. Their decision was later approved by the organisation’s board.
Rennie’s first major task will be to name a squad for three home Tests in July against France, Italy and Ireland. These matches are part of the new Nations Championship competition.
Later in the year, the team will travel to South Africa for a demanding eight-match tour. Rennie will also begin preparing the side for the next Rugby World Cup in Australia.
Speaking about the job, Rennie said coaching the All Blacks was an incredible honour. He said he understands the high expectations and wants the team to make the country proud.
The All Blacks had mixed results in recent seasons, winning many matches but also suffering several tough defeats. New Zealand Rugby hopes Rennie can bring clear ideas and strong teamwork to help the team improve.
