Over 51,000 people have signed an online petition to rename Nashville International Airport in honour of country music legend Dolly Parton.

The petition was started by comedian Lydia Popovich and Dan Dion, owner of Goat Song Records, as a way to recognise Parton’s impact on Tennessee and beyond.

The idea came after a recent proposal to rename the airport after former President Donald Trump did not succeed. Popovich and Dion said they had talked about the idea for years and felt this was the right time to act.

Supporters say Dolly Parton represents the heart of Tennessee and brings people together, no matter their background or beliefs. “She’s someone who makes everyone smile,” Popovich told The Nashville Tennessean. “She shows the best of what the South can be.”

Dolly Parton is not just a famous singer and songwriter — she is also known for her charity work, including giving books to children around the world through her Imagination Library.

The petition continues to gain attention, showing how deeply people admire Dolly Parton for her music, kindness, and positive spirit. It is not yet clear if the airport’s name will be changed, but the growing support may influence local leaders to consider it.
