The trailer for Disney’s “Moana 2” has made waves, breaking the record for Disney’s most-watched animated trailer within its first 24 hours of release. Released on Wednesday, the teaser garnered over 178 million views across social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, X, and YouTube.

Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson return as Moana and Maui in this sequel, which takes place three years after Moana’s original adventure. The story follows Moana on a new quest to find “people beyond the shores of Motonui.” In the trailer, Moana says, “This is a call from the ancestors. To sail to new skies and reconnect our people across the entire ocean.”

Reacting to the trailer’s success, Cravalho posted on Instagram, “Mahalo nui loa Moana ‘ohana!! You’ve made #Moana2 THEE most watched trailer in @disneyanimation history!!! November 27th can’t come soon enough.”

Disney announced the sequel earlier this year. Disney’s chief executive Bob Iger stated, “Moana remains an incredibly popular franchise, and we can’t wait to give you more of Moana and Maui when Moana 2 comes to theaters this November.”

In addition to the animated sequel, a live-action adaptation of the 2016 film is in the works, with Johnson set to reprise his role as Maui. The original “Moana” film was nominated for two Oscars in 2017: Best Animated Feature Film and Best Original Song.

“Moana 2” is set to sail into theatres on November 27.
