LeBron James made NBA history on Friday night by helping his son Bronny score a basket. During the Los Angeles Lakers’ game against the Brooklyn Nets, LeBron passed the ball to Bronny, who made a three-pointer. The NBA says this was the first father-son assist ever seen in the league. It happened in the second quarter while both players were on the court together.
The pair played important minutes together for the second game in a row. They came on at the start of the second quarter and shared nearly four and a half minutes on court. During that time, both father and son scored. LeBron made a driving lay-up before passing to Bronny on the next possession for the historic shot.
Bronny has mostly played only short late-game minutes this season, which is his second with the Lakers. He has also spent time playing for the team’s G League side. Recently, however, he has been given a bigger role. With starting guard Marcus Smart out injured, Bronny played rotation minutes against both Indiana and Brooklyn this week.
LeBron and Bronny are already the first father and son to play in the NBA at the same time. They are also the first to play on the same team together.
