India beat New Zealand by 96 runs in the Men’s T20 World Cup final in Ahmedabad on Sunday, winning the championship for the second time in a row. Playing in front of more than 100,000 fans at Narendra Modi Stadium, India scored a huge total of 255 for five in their 20 overs before bowling New Zealand out for 159.
Sanju Samson led the way for India with a powerful 89 runs from 46 balls. Abhishek Sharma scored a quick 52 from just 21 balls, while Ishan Kishan added 54 from 25. The three batters took advantage of excellent batting conditions and helped India race to 92 runs in the first six overs.
New Zealand struggled to keep up with the very high run chase. Opener Tim Seifert hit 52 runs from 26 balls, and captain Mitchell Santner scored 43 near the end of the innings. However, wickets kept falling, and the team could not build a strong partnership.
India’s bowler Jasprit Bumrah was outstanding, taking four wickets for only 15 runs. His bowling helped finish off the New Zealand innings in the 19th over.
The victory also made history, as India became the first team to win back-to-back men’s T20 World Cup titles. It is also the biggest winning margin in a T20 World Cup match.
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner said India’s strong start made the difference. India scored quickly in the early overs, while New Zealand lost three wickets in the same period.
Despite the defeat, Santner said he was proud of his team for reaching the final after a challenging tournament. New Zealand has now finished as runners-up in several major cricket finals, including past World Cups in 2015, 2019 and 2021.
