Crystal Palace made history on Saturday by winning the FA Cup for the first time in the club’s 119-year history.
They beat the strong favourites, Manchester City, 1-0 in a tense and exciting final. The winning goal came early in the match from local star Eberechi Eze.
Eze’s volley in the 16th minute gave Palace the lead, and from then on, it was all about defending. City had many chances to score, including a penalty, but Palace’s goalkeeper Dean Henderson made several amazing saves to keep them out.
Palace, known as “the Eagles,” had reached the FA Cup final twice before—in 1990 and 2016—but lost both times. This third trip ended in triumph, and fans in purple and blue celebrated wildly. Their coach, Oliver Glasner, became the first Austrian manager to win the FA Cup.
Manchester City dominated the match with over 80% of the ball, but couldn’t break through. Star striker Erling Haaland missed a great chance, and a penalty taken by Omar Marmoush was saved by Henderson. City also had a goal ruled out by VAR for offside.
Despite late pressure and 10 minutes of stoppage time, Palace held on. When the final whistle blew, their anthem Glad All Over echoed through the stadium, marking a moment that will be remembered forever in south London.
