New Zealand’s cricket team, the Blackcaps, made history at the T20 World Cup in Chennai by beating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a record-breaking opening partnership.
On Tuesday, openers Tim Seifert and Finn Allen scored an unbeaten 175 runs together. This is the highest-ever partnership for any wicket at a men’s T20 World Cup. Their batting helped New Zealand win by 10 wickets.
Seifert scored 89 runs from just 42 balls, while Allen hit 84 not out off 50 balls. The pair chased down UAE’s total of 173 runs in only 15.2 overs, giving the Blackcaps their second win in Group D.
Earlier, UAE captain Muhammad Waseem (66 not out) and teammate Alishan Sharafu (55) had helped their team to a strong total of 173-6 in 20 overs. But New Zealand’s openers were unstoppable, especially during the power play, where they raced to 78 runs without losing a wicket.
The UAE bowlers struggled, with Muhammad Rohid giving away 51 runs in just over three overs. Allen and Seifert smashed multiple sixes and fours, easily chasing down the target and breaking the previous record of 170 runs set by England in 2022.
