Australia triumphed over the Black Caps with a 72-run victory in the second T20 cricket match in Auckland, securing the Chappell-Hadlee trophy.

The match saw impressive bowling from the Black Caps, limiting Australia to 174 runs. However, New Zealand’s batting lineup struggled, only managing to score 102 runs in 17 overs.

Key performances included Lockie Ferguson’s exceptional bowling, taking 4 wickets for just 12 runs, and Glenn Phillips’ top-scoring effort for New Zealand with 42 runs. Despite these individual successes, the team was unable to build a strong partnership, leading to their downfall.

The match also saw injuries affecting the teams. New Zealand’s Devon Conway had to leave for an X-ray on his left thumb, and Rachin Ravindra was sidelined due to knee pain. Fortunately, Conway’s X-ray showed no obvious fracture.

Australia’s Pat Cummins was named player of the match, contributing significantly with both bat and ball.

The series concludes with the third T20I in Auckland, where the Black Caps will aim to salvage a win.
