A New Zealand sweet company says it is “delighted” after one of its products was seen in a car used by King Charles III. A bag of RJ’s black licorice appeared tucked inside a compartment as the King stepped out of the back seat. The moment was shared in a video online by RJ’s Confectionery.

The company posted the clip on social media with a playful message saying the licorice was “fit for a king”. A spokesperson said they were just as excited as everyone else to spot their product in the background of the video. Although they could not explain exactly how it got there, they said it was a proud moment for the team.

RJ’s is based in Levin and has been making sweets in New Zealand since 1995. It was founded by Roger Halliwell and his son Regan James, whose initials inspired the company’s name. The business produces a range of licorice and chocolates that are sold both at home and overseas.

The company said it is always special to see its New Zealand-made sweets travelling around the world.
