Tilly was made using artificial intelligence (AI) by a studio called Xicoia, which is part of Van der Velden’s bigger company, Particle6. Van der Velden says that Tilly is not here to take jobs away from real actors, but to open up exciting new ways of making films.
Directors and designers are already interested in working with Tilly, and some people from traditional movie jobs, like costume and set design, are learning how to work in this new AI world.
Van der Velden believes that combining AI with human creativity could lead to amazing new movies. She says that AI can help people be more creative, just like when you play and imagine as a child. It lets creators try out ideas quickly and explore new styles.
Even though some people in the movie world have doubts about AI characters, Van der Velden says she is building Tilly’s “brain” so that one day, the AI actress can even speak for herself in interviews.
She hopes Tilly and others like her will be part of the future of film, not as replacements, but as fresh tools to make even better stories.
