In early April, the tallest and shortest living dogs in the world met for a special playdate in the United States.
Pearl, a tiny Chihuahua from Florida, traveled across the country to visit Reggie, a Great Dane from Idaho. Pearl measures only 9.13 cm tall, while Reggie stands at a massive 1.007 meters, more than ten times her height!
Both dogs hold Guinness World Records for their sizes. Despite their big difference in height, they became fast friends. When they met, the two sniffed each other and wagged their tails, showing they were happy to play together.
Their owners helped them sit on the same couch. Reggie lay down to be at Pearl’s level, while Pearl ran playfully over his legs like he was a big stuffed animal. Later, they roamed the house and even ran around the backyard together.
“I was surprised Pearl wasn’t scared,” said Sam Johnson, Reggie’s owner. “She was excited and curious!” Pearl’s owner, Vanesa Semler, said Pearl doesn’t seem to know how small she is. “She’s always friendly with big dogs.”
The two even posed for fun photos—one showed Pearl sitting inside Reggie’s food bowl!
The tallest dog ever recorded was another Great Dane named Zeus, who stood 1.12 meters tall. The shortest was a Yorkshire terrier just 7.11 cm high.
