United States President Joe Biden, aged 81, has announced he will not seek reelection in 2024.

In a message on X, Biden expressed his honor in serving as President and stated his decision was made in the best interest of his party and the country. He emphasized his commitment to focusing on his duties for the rest of his term.

Biden plans to address the nation later this week to provide more details about his decision. The President faced increasing calls to step down, especially due to concerns about his age.

Biden thanked his supporters and the American people for their trust. He also endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party’s candidate for the upcoming election, calling his choice of her as Vice President in 2020 his best decision. Harris is now seen as the favorite for the party’s nomination at the August convention in Chicago. Other potential candidates include California Governor Gavin Newsom.

The Democratic nominee will face former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, in the next election. Biden expressed gratitude to Vice President Harris for her partnership and support.
