The New Zealand cricket team, also known as the Black Caps, is out of the T20 World Cup after losing their second match. Although they can still qualify, it would require highly unlikely results from other teams. After a shocking loss to Afghanistan, the Black Caps needed to win against the West Indies but failed under pressure.

New Zealand had a rough start with the bat and lost by 13 runs, ending their hopes of advancing in the tournament. Despite a strong early performance in the first innings, poor bowling towards the end allowed the West Indies to score heavily.

Sherfane Rutherford was the hero for the West Indies, scoring 68 runs from 39 balls. This helped his team set a challenging total of 149-9, despite New Zealand’s initial success in taking quick wickets.

New Zealand made changes to their lineup for this crucial match, bringing in Tim Southee, Jimmy Neesham, and Rachin Ravindra. Trent Boult and Southee provided a strong start, taking early wickets, but the West Indies fought back.

Despite the efforts of Boult and Southee, New Zealand’s fielding mistakes and the West Indies’ resilience, particularly from Rutherford, allowed the hosts to reach a defendable score. New Zealand’s batting lineup couldn’t keep up, losing wickets at regular intervals.

Captain Kane Williamson emphasized the need for the team to improve their performance in the remaining matches. He stated that the team has no excuses and must find more runs to win. New Zealand’s next match is against Uganda.

This loss marks a disappointing end to New Zealand’s T20 World Cup campaign, as they failed to meet expectations and secure a place in the next stage of the tournament.
