The White Ferns had their first win of the Women’s Cricket World Cup, defeating Bangladesh by 100 runs.

The match took place on Friday, giving New Zealand a much-needed boost after two earlier losses.

Sophie Devine, who had already made impressive scores of 112 and 85 in previous games, helped steady the team after a difficult start. New Zealand had been struggling at 38 for 3 wickets before Brooke Halliday added 69 runs, helping the team reach a total of 227 for 9.

When Bangladesh came in to bat, they faced strong bowling from New Zealand’s pace attack. Rosemary Mair, Jess Kerr, and Lea Tahuhu worked together to take eight wickets between them. Bangladesh was all out for 127 runs in 39.5 overs, with Fahima Khatun making the highest score for her side at 34.

This victory lifted New Zealand to sixth place in the standings, and they will next face co-hosts Sri Lanka in Colombo on Tuesday. Bangladesh, now fifth after two losses in three games, will meet South Africa in Visakhapatnam.
