At 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, 22 March 2025, people all over the world switched off their lights for one hour to mark Earth Hour.
The global event aimed to raise awareness about protecting nature and fighting climate change. Many famous landmarks, including Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, and Stirling Castle, went dark in support.
Earth Hour first began in 2007, started by the World Wildlife Fund in Sydney, Australia. That year, over 2.2 million people and 2,000 businesses turned off their lights. Since then, the event has grown, with over 190 countries joining in this year.
In the UK, important buildings like the Palace of Westminster in London and the Liver Building in Liverpool took part by turning off their lights. The moment created a powerful symbol of unity for the environment.
Families and individuals joined in from home. Some switched off lights and electronic devices, while others spent time outdoors or played games by candlelight. Many used the hour to enjoy nature or connect with loved ones.
