Trump speaks at the United Nations

President Donald Trump has strongly criticised the United Nations in a bold speech at the General Assembly, calling the global body weak and full of “empty words.” He said the UN was not doing enough to solve the world’s biggest problems and praised the direction the United States has taken under his leadership. Trump also criticised recent moves by some countries, including France, to recognise a Palestinian state, saying it would reward terrorists. He warned Russia of new tariffs if it doesn’t seek peace in Ukraine and said that other countries were helping Russia by continuing to buy its energy.

Although Trump said he wanted peace and even mentioned the Nobel Peace Prize, he also claimed credit for helping resolve several international conflicts — saying it was a shame the UN hadn’t stepped in first.

His speech drew mixed reactions, with some leaders applauding and others expressing discomfort. After the address, Trump met with leaders from several countries, including Ukraine and Argentina, and hosted a reception for over 100 world officials.
