At the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw on Saturday, US President Donald Trump received a brand-new FIFA Peace Prize.

This award was given in recognition of his efforts to promote peace around the world, marking a surprising move from the football organisation, which usually focuses only on sport.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented him with a gold medal and a trophy shaped like hands lifting the world. The event took place during the official draw to decide the matchups for the tournament, which will be held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Infantino praised Trump’s attempts to stop fighting in Gaza and to bring peace to eastern Congo, calling him “a leader that cares about the people.” Trump said the prize was “one of the great honours of my life” and thanked his wife and fellow leaders from Canada and Mexico for their teamwork.
