Taylor Swift has once again made history, this time by breaking streaming and cinema records with her new album The Life of a Showgirl and its companion film The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.
Released on Friday, Swift’s 12th studio album quickly became the most-streamed album in a single day of 2025 on Spotify and Apple Music. It also broke Amazon Music’s all-time streaming record. The lead single, The Fate of Ophelia, set new records too, becoming the most-streamed song in Spotify’s history on its first day.
At the same time, Swift’s special 89-minute film event opened in over 3,700 cinemas across the United States. Filled with music videos, behind-the-scenes moments, and Swift’s personal reflections, the movie made up to $32 million in its first weekend. It topped the box office and gave cinemas a much-needed boost after a slow summer season.
Fans around the world flocked to the theatres, many dressed in orange – the theme colour of the album – and took part in special screening events. Viewers gave the film an A+ CinemaScore, showing their excitement and strong connection to Swift’s work.
The Life of a Showgirl shows a more joyful side of Swift, featuring upbeat pop songs and heartfelt lyrics about love and success. Some songs hint at past conflicts in her music career, while others focus on her happiness with fiancé and NFL star Travis Kelce.
With this release, Taylor Swift proves once again she’s more than a pop star – she’s a record-breaker, a trend-setter, and a true showgirl.
